“And Asa cried unto the Lord his God, Lord it is nothing with thee to help: whether with many or with them that have no power: help us O Lord our God: for we rest on thee and in thy name we go against this multitude. O Lord thou art our God, let not man prevail against thee.” II Chronicles 15:11
King Asa was a man who did that which was right in the sight of God. One day a mighty army had come to fight against King Asa and the inhabitants of Judah. King Asa was a man who trusted God. He knew that if he did not receive help from God they would be defeated, so he cried unto God for help.
What is important about this scripture is what Asa said. “Lord it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many or with them that have no power.” What he was saying is God it does not matter to you if the enemy is very powerful or if it has little power, it is all the same to you. Your power is still the same; you don’t use greater power with a very powerful enemy and less power with a smaller army. No, you just use “power.”
I think sometimes we as Christians tend to categorize our test and trials. We consider some problems as big (mountains) and some problems as small (molehills). However God does not classify them that way because they are all the same to him. We must learn to see things from God’s perspective, it is his power that destroys the yoke, and it is his power that defeats the enemy.
When we call on him and trust him as we go forth in this fight he will/he already has defeated our enemy (Satan & his demonic host). King Asa said, “We rest in you and in your NAME we go against this multitude.” Whatever we do, we are to do it all in the name of Jesus because there is power, healing and deliverance in the name of JESUS. It is about the NAME. When we can truly see that when people fight against us, they are not fighting us, but against God then we can have confidence like King Asa that God will fight our battles, but we must make sure we are suffering for righteousness sake, and not for our wrongdoing.
King Asa said, “Let not man prevail against thee.” He knew that the battle was the Lords, he was reminding God that they belonged to him therefore they needed him to fight for them. He was telling God that if the enemy defeated them then they would actually be defeating him because they belonged to him. The same holds true today, if God allowed Satan to defeat us then he would actually be defeating God, and that will never happen.
When we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit we receive the power of the living God which dwells within us. Jesus told his disciples that he had given them power over all the power of the enemy.
When God is our God and we truly submit ourselves to him he will fight our battles just as he fought for King Asa and the children of Israel.
